Decorated Notebooks

Decorated Notebooks -

If the thought of any mixed media is daunting try doing a notebook cover.  Think of an A5 notebook as a card front and go from there.  It can be as flat or 3D as you want it.  This was my first attempt at any kind of mixed media project.

I used cardboard packaging and Sue Wilson steampunk range of dies cut out several times to make chipboard effect by sticking them together - at the time my stash was very limited and its and easy way to make a shape that you want.  I used some lace ribbon and a string of pearls along the border and some Tonic Nuvo drops to create embellishments.  Gilding wax to highlight.

This one was an attempt to go all out grunge and I used rust effect paint process from the Cosmic Shimmer range.  Again all the elements are several layers of die cuts stuck together before painting.

Quick Projects

Fuchsia Card
Stamp with a Memento or Hybrid Ink pad and colour with Alcohol markers.  Simple mat and layer of co-ordinating colours of card.  Don't be afraid of the 'white space'.  Finished project 7x7" square.

Unicorn Card -
Using a topper image from my stash, a Tonic ribbon sentiment with its mat, co-ordinating card for mats and layers and some die cut heart embellishments.  Finished project 6x6" square.

Motorcycle Card -
A card for him... A topper from I think an old Hunkdory little book, co-ordinating colour card stock to mat and layer and 'peel off' alphabet to create the sentiment on die cut circles. Finished card 6x6" square.

Clean and Crisp Card -
Lots of white space... Simply stamp the image twice, once direct to your card blank and another on a separate piece of card and cut out the flower head from the second image.  Very little colouring.  Add a bow and sentiment.

Hunkdory Cat Wedding Card -

Using all the elements from an old Hunkydory cat collection, including co-ordinating adorable scorable card plain and patterned, along with a topper, frame and sentiment.  Additional peel-off alphabets/stickers to give additional sentiments.

Digital Card for the shoe addict -

Some crafters stick their noses up at digital crafting but just think of it as another tool.  Everything has to be printed and rather than a manufacturer doing it you are!!!  This card is simply two printed sheets matted and layered again, as always, onto co-ordinating card stock with the colours selected from the image.

Groovi Parchment Projects

My introduction to parchment using Groovi plates by Clarity Crafts -

A relaxing day spent creating these pieces of parchment and it is as easy as advertised by Clarity, just be aware of the pressure you are putting on the parchment.  Each one is coloured on the back using pencils and then a piece of Clarity patterned card stock chosen in a co-ordinating colour to that used to colour each image.  Brads used to then mount onto a mat before sticking onto black card stock.

Mixed Media and MDF projects

Madhatters MDF Art Kit -

First time trying a Madhatters kit.  Used black gesso on the splats then Tim Holtz distress sprays in complementary colours to give the chalky effect.  A torn page from a book added to the notebook MDF piece.  A white gel pen to add highlights.

Madhatters Cottage Storage boxes -

Each of these boxes has hidden storage behind them.  Tried to use cottage colours to give a village feel.  Stonework added here and there using a stencil and structure paste.  The roof on each uses cardboard packing and painted with acrylics. Dry brush with white to provide door highlights.

Personal Impressions Chest -

Stamperia rice papers used to decorate with acrylic brown paint for the straps.  No gesso to prime as it provided an antiqued look.  Gilding wax on each of the buttons to add the antique look.

From scratch project - first attempt

Take a piece of mount board and just go with it.  Used stencils and structure paste on the background, old card board and art stones.  Then made myself a frame and the scissors from die cuts (cut several times and stuck together to give the look of chipboard).  Used Prima and old Tonic molds to create decorative elements.  Gesso in white before using Tim Holtz distress oxides in Bundled Sage and Victorian Velvet.  Finished with an antique gold gilding wax.

Something more Gothic -

Wanted to do something a bit darker, whilst still having a pretty edge.  Used a plaster skull from Stamps Away and tissue paper folded around it (would use material now), molds from Tonic, texture paste in the background on several stencils, artsy stones for texture, then spritzed with Tim Holtz Black Soot Distress Oxide Spray.  Gilding Wax to finish

Something a bit more vintage again -

Cardboard packing again is your friend for texture in the background along with texture paste through stencils.  This time a large resin cherub frame was used and paper flowers. A couple of metal charms and an MDF word.  White gesso initially used before Tim Holtz distress oxide spritz.

To remember Mum -

A friend wrote the poem and shared it with me - a moving tribute to those that go through the horrible disease that is Alzheimers and/or Dementia...
